At Masterpiece Murals we specialize in designing and painting large-scale custom murals. Masterpiece Murals was founded in 2013 by Anthony Arias, an award-winning art director, illustrator and graffiti artist. After spending over a decade serving as the editorial art director for top magazine titles in New York City, he was determined to shift gears and pursue on his lifelong passion of mural painting. Anthony has spent the past 30 years honing his skills behind the spray can as a prominent member of the global graffiti artist community. What started out as a youthful hobby matured into a professional craft that has brought him all over the globe, competing in events and producing large-scale mural artwork. All of the custom murals designed and painted at Masterpiece Murals are informed by Anthony’s professional experience as an art director and graffiti artist.

We have been growing our network of satisfied and repeat clients in the NY Metropolitan area. We set up our second studio in San Francisco, and are now offering our services and expertise to both the west coast in the San Francisco Bay Area and east coast in the NY Metropolitan area.

Our talented artists excel at graffiti lettering, illustration and large-scale mural design. We create fully custom concepts or can work with your creative direction. We also offer digital mural assets and artwork for clients when a hand-painted piece is not feasible.

A Deeper Look

Our process

Looking for a custom mural to be designed and painted for your office, restaurant, residential and commercial space or promotional event? Or do you have predesigned mural artwork you would like to have painted? You came to the right place. Here is how we approach every project.

Location & scale

Our first consideration is what mural site/sites you have identified for your custom mural artwork. We ask for photographs of the mural sites as well as their measurements. We want to know what type of wall we are working with. Is it an interior mural or an exterior mural? Is it for a corporate office or outdoors on a basketball or tennis court? We also need to understand how we will obtain access to all parts of the mural area. Will ladders and scaffolding work or will scissor lifts or boom lifts be necessary? We try to visit every site in person, but it’s not always possible.

Mural Concept

Do you have an idea of what you want painted, with examples and inspiration images? Or do you want to tap into our artistic expertise and give us creative license to come up with something fresh and new with minimal client feedback. Are you looking to have an ad painted that was pre-designed or contains photorealism? All of these factors are considered.

Project Estimate

Once we’ve agreed on location and concept, we draw up an informed estimate. The estimate is based on the subject and scale of the painting. Is there photorealism and a high level of detail or is the mural more graphic and minimal? The timeline and location are also considered in the estimate. Do we have the necessary time to concept and mobilize our team? Weekend work and work outside of regular business hours will incur additional fees. The estimate provided contains a fixed price for the total project that includes mural design (if applicable), timing, paint, supplies, lifts and manpower.

Creative Brainstorming

Once the budget is approved, we schedule a call to dive deep into the creative details of the project. We learn about you, what you’re looking for and if there is any previous work in our portfolio that we can reference. We review any samples or inspiration mural images you have brought to the table and try to define what the mural concept will look like before we enter the design phase. Our decades of experience help ensure we are asking the right questions and leave no stone unturned.

Design Process

After we’ve completed brainstorming, we use all of the ideas, themes, copy and visual elements we have identified to design your mural to scale in full color. The process usually takes about 7-10 business days. We submit the fully colored design and allow for a total of two rounds of revisions before we land on the approved final mural artwork.

Mural Install

With the final artwork approved we schedule a date for installation. Unless otherwise specified in the project estimate phase, all install times take place between 8:30am – 6:30pm Monday – Friday.
