Professional Muralist Services

From Concept to Completion

A muralist transforms blank walls into large-scale works of art. At Masterpiece Murals, we specialize in designing and painting custom murals for offices, restaurants, commercial and residential spaces, and promotional events.

Founded in 2013 by Anthony Arias, Masterpiece Murals specializes in designing and painting custom murals for offices, restaurants, commercial and residential spaces, and promotional events. Anthony spent over a decade as an editorial art director for top magazine titles in New York City, and brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience as a graffiti artist — competing in events and producing original artwork around the globe. That dual background in commercial design and the fine arts gives every project a foundation of real artistic skill and professional discipline.

What most studios won’t tell you is how much of this work is project management — coordinating timelines, managing site access, and keeping creative vision aligned with budget reality. That operational expertise is what keeps clients coming back.

Over the years, we’ve grown a network of satisfied and repeat clients across both coasts, with public murals in San Francisco and New York that reflect the culture and identity of each community we serve. We work with clients across the NY Metropolitan area and the San Francisco Bay Area.

We Specialize In

Custom Mural Painting & Design Services

Our specialty is large-scale murals designed from scratch for each client. We learn about your goals, brand vision, and aesthetics before putting brush or spray can to wall. Every piece is one-of-a-kind.

MURAL PAINTING

Hand-painted murals for interior and exterior walls, from corporate offices to outdoor surfaces like basketball and tennis courts. Our team works with acrylic, oil paint, and aerosol to match the right medium to each surface and setting.

DESIGN & Illustration

Our mural artists excel at lettering, illustration, and large-scale design. We create fully custom concepts or work with your creative direction. We also produce digital assets for clients when a hand-painted piece is not feasible.

Promotional Events

Live graffiti painting, product personalization, and team-building projects bring visibility to your brand. These activations tap into the energy of street art and culture in a way that connects with audiences.

FABRICATION

We build handcrafted canvases, freestanding flats, and specialized structures for indoor and outdoor installations. We oversee designing, building, and installing your finished piece from start to finish.

A Deeper Look

Our Process

Here is how we approach every project, whether you need an original concept designed or have a pre-designed piece you want painted onto walls.

1

Location & scale

Our first step is understanding your site. We ask for photographs and measurements of the wall or ceiling where the piece will go. Is it an interior or exterior surface? A corporate office, a public building, or a private home? We assess access requirements—ladders and scaffolding may work, or scissor lifts and boom lifts may be necessary. We try to visit every site in person when possible.
2

Concept & Estimate

Do you have an idea of what you want painted, with examples and inspiration images? Or would you prefer to give us creative license to come up with something fresh? Once we agree on concept and location, we draw up a detailed estimate. Pricing is based on the subject, scale, level of detail, and timeline. The estimate includes design (if applicable), timing, paint, supplies, lifts, and manpower. Weekend or after-hours work incurs additional fees.
3

Design & Revisions

After a creative brainstorming session, we use all of the ideas, themes, copy, and visual elements identified to design your piece to scale in full color. The process usually takes about 7–10 business days. We submit the fully colored design and allow for two rounds of revisions before landing on the approved final artwork.
4

Installation

With the approved design in hand, we schedule the installation. Standard install times are 8:30 AM–6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise arranged in the project estimate phase.
Decades of Dedication

What Sets our Professional Muralists Apart

Not every painter is equipped to handle the scale and complexity that a large surface project demands. One mistake I see repeatedly is clients hiring someone who can paint well on canvas but has never worked on a wall or ceiling at full scale. The artistic skills required are fundamentally different.

Muralists must understand painting techniques rooted in art history that go back centuries. Fresco painting, where paint is applied on plaster on walls while still wet, was the method behind some of history’s most iconic wall paintings. Mezzo-fresco and fresco-secco painting is done on dry plaster, offering different working times and effects on plaster on walls or ceilings. These techniques were famously used by Michelangelo and refined during Mexican muralism by artists like Diego Rivera, Orozco, and Siqueiros—whose many murals took years to complete.

Modern muralists use a range of styles and techniques depending on the job. Acrylic holds up well on outdoor surfaces, while oil paint suits certain interior applications. Texturing, layering, and graffito (scratching through layers to reveal color beneath) are all part of the mural arts toolkit. A variety of techniques come into play on any given job. Knowing which medium to use—and how to sketch, scale, and paint directly on surfaces—comes from years of real job-site experience.

Many murals can be found across the country—murals in schools, public buildings, government buildings, art centers, and public spaces. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, fine artists including those who paint murals work in a range of settings. Many operate on a freelance basis, handling everything from tile mural installations and exhibition pieces to large-scale commercial projects. Whether the job calls for painting murals in private homes or creating public art for a government building, the ability to paint a mural from concept through installation is what separates working professionals from hobbyists.
